You may see military around Uxbridge this weekend

Members of the public may see military vehicles on roads and highways in and around Uxbridge, according to a notice from the Department of National Defence, released by the Township of Uxbridge yesterday.

The notice said members of 32 Territorial Battalion Group (32 TBG) will be exercising their communications and logistical capabilities this weekend, Saturday March 19 and Sunday March 20.

No weapons or ammunition will be carried at any point throughout the exercise.

The planned exercise will occur in vicinity of Uxbridge Wooden Sticks Golf Club, and in Markham Fairgrounds and Tottenham Conservation Area. A headquarters element will set up at Markham Fairgrounds, which will communicate between one Command Post in Tottenham, and another Command Post in Uxbridge.

The 32 Service Battalion will be conducting a Driver-Wheeled course. Military vehicles will transit between these three locations in support of exercise activities, as soldiers earn sufficient mileage towards their qualifications.

The 32 Signal Regiment will maintain communications between these three locations, an area that covers over 123 square kilometres. As well, Signallers will exercise long-distance communications with 31 Signal Regiment in London, Ontario and 32 Signal Regiment (UK) in Glasgow, Scotland.

The 32 TBG comprises local Canadian Armed Forces Reserve units from 32 Canadian Brigade Group, the Army Reserve of Toronto in the GTA and Niagara, said the notice.

  1. When you are referring to the Canadian Armed Forces, please use photographs of Canadian personnel. The average person may not know the difference, but Durham Region has a significant number of veterans and serving members living here, who would be annoyed by such an error.
