15-year old brandishes knife, stabs victim in chest

Durham Police said a 15-year-old male has been arrested after stabbing an 18-year-old on Thursday evening.

On June 1 at about 5:15 pm, members of Central East Division responded to the area of Ritson Road North and Adelaide Avenue East, in Oshawa for reports of an armed person. Officers arrived alongside paramedics to find the victim with life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre, said a police statement.

The suspect had approached a group of youths while brandishing a knife. The youths ran, and one of their brothers intervened and was stabbed by the suspect when he confronted him. The suspect stabbed the victim in the chest and then fled the area on foot and was taken into custody following a foot pursuit, police said.

A 15-year-old male from Oshawa is facing eight charges, including: Aggravated Assault; Assault with a Weapon x2 and Possess Weapon – Dangerous to Public Peace.
