Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) reported that its Central East Division officers carried out a seatbelt/distracted driving initiative yesterday morning.
“Although everyone was buckled up, in just three hours, 17 drivers were issued tickets for texting and driving,” it said.
“If the matter can’t wait, pull off the road and park first…it may save a life,” police added.
Unlicenced Driver Fails To Stop
DRPS East Division stopped a female driver (image below) on Tuesday at Britannia Avenue East and Raike Drive in Oshawa.
She had failed to stop at a stop sign and was unlicensed.
“Stop sign fine $110 and three demerit points. Drive unlicensed fine $325,” police said.

$2,000 Fine For Stunt Driver
DRPS East Division reported a driver stunting at 96kmh in a posted 50kmh zone (image below).
They were clocked at Harmony Road North and Winchester Road East in Oshawa on Tuesday.
The driver earned a $2000 fine, six demerit points, 30-day licence suspension and a 14-day vehicle impound.

One in Hospital After Oshawa Fire
DRPS, on Tuesday closed Cordova Road in Oshawa in both directions from Oxford Street to Park Road South due to a working fire.
“One individual has been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries,” said a police alert.
Later, Oshawa Fire Services said the fire on Cordova Road had been extinguished. “No injuries have been reported from the scene. Crews remain on scene conducting overhaul operations and air quality tests in the building. Crews are being released from the scene. Please avoid the area,” it said.
Tribute To Fallen Comrade
Whitby Firefighters on Monday honoured the memory of their brother, William Pleshe, who was lost in the line of duty on February 16, 2025.
“Rest easy, brother. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten,” said a memorial post.
