A two-vehicle crash in Pickering on Friday night has left an 18-year-old dead and another man in critical condition.
On February 27 at about 8:05 pm, Durham police responded to a severe collision on Brock Road, just north of Taunton Road. Investigators determined that a Toyota sedan traveling southbound lost control, crossed into the northbound lanes, and struck an oncoming GMC pickup truck.
The force of the impact resulted in extensive damage to both vehicles.
An 18-year-old male passenger in the Toyota was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene. Another passenger, a 21-year-old male, was ejected from the vehicle and remains in a Toronto-area trauma centre in life-threatening condition. The Toyota’s 42-year-old female driver and a 58-year-old male passenger were also transported to a local hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the 56-year-old driver of the GMC pickup was assessed by paramedics at the scene and did not require further medical attention, police said.
The DRPS Collision Investigation Unit spent several hours at the scene collecting evidence, necessitating a lengthy road closure. While the cause of the loss of control remains under investigation, police are looking for additional evidence.
