Vehicle catches on fire on Hwy 407

OPP reported a vehicle on fire on February 24 around 2:14 pm.

The vehicle caught fire at Highway 407 at Lakeridge Road in Pickering. Lane 3 and the on-ramp lane from Lakeridge Road was blocked as the debris was being cleaned up. No injuries were reported.

Buckle Up 

DRPS on on February 25th reported that they attended John M James P/S, located at 175 Mearns Avenue in Bowmanville for seat belt checks after a previous incident of a parent speeding with their 5 year old unbuckled in the car.

DRPS urges the community to ensure safe arrival and departure to and from school. They reminded the public that the fine for a child under 16 failing to wear seat belt is $240 and 2 demerit points.

Double The Limit

DRPS East Division reported that they stopped a car that was stunting 100 km/h in a posted 50 km/h on Feb 25th.

The incident occurred at Simcoe Street North and Ridge Top Ct, in Oshawa as pictured below.

The driver was fined $2000, received 6 demerit points and received a 30-day suspension and 14 day vehicle impoundment.

Across the Durham region DRPS officers were busy. The central west division was conducting a proactive patrol in south Whitby, when they observed a vehicle traveling at 123 km/h in a posted 60 km/h hour zone.

The driver was stopped and charged with stunt driving and speeding as pictured below.

They received a 14 day vehicle impound and a 30 day license suspension.

DRPS Traffic Service reported that they stopped a vehicle that was doing 115 km/h and climbing in a 60 km/h zone on Feb 26th.

Upon being stopped police discovered the driver only had a G2.

The G2 driver received a 14 day vehicle impound and a 30 day license suspension as a prize as pictured below.
