Durham Regional Police service (DRPS) officers, this past weekend led a Safe Shop initiative that focused on retail theft enforcement in the area of Harmony Road North and Taunton Road in Oshawa.
This initiative by members of DRPS East Division maintained a highly visible presence in order to deter criminal activity and provide safety and security to the community. As a result, six persons were arrested, leading to numerous charges and one adult diversion. Police did not explain the ‘adult diversion’.
This ongoing initiative has resulted in 85 arrests and 92 charges laid, in addition to 13 Provincial Offence Notices and 17 diversions, related to retail theft since January.
This initiative was possible with funding from the Community Safety and Policing Grant, police said.
