2021 starts with a new covid death in Durham

One new non-LTCH Covid-19 death in Pickering has been posted by Durham Health for January 1.

December saw 52 covid deaths and November, five.

Durham Health yesterday posted 144 new Covid-19 cases for January 1 bringing the region’s tally to 7,616 since the count began on February 29. Another 5 cases are under investigation.

Recoveries stand at 6,498, up by 111. There are 878 active covid cases.

Durham Health did not publish on New Year Day, so the comparisons are between December 30 and January 1. There were:

  • 53 new cases in Pickering
  • 105 in Ajax
  • 58 in Whitby
  • 72 in Oshawa
  • 18 in Clarington
  • 8 in Uxbridge
  • 5 in Scugog, and
  • Two in Brock

Forty cases are hospitalized with 12 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 838 people in home isolation.

Total death toll is at 240 with 202 in long term care homes (LTCHs).

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,235 in Ajax.

Death Toll: 240

Of the 91 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 43 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-four deaths were reported in Whitby, 29 in LTCH
Of the 43 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
