2024 ends with Durham’s 11th murder on New Year’s eve

A 29-year-old male is the 11th homicide victim of 2024 in Durham Region.

On Tuesday, December 31, at about 2 pm, officers say they responded to reports of an armed person at 1040 Cedar Street in Oshawa. Officers arrived on scene and located a male shot inside the building, he was pronounced deceased on scene.

The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Dennis Binda of Oshawa, police say.

Police say they are continuing to canvass the area and are asking for anyone with information or video footage, including dashcam and home surveillance, to please contact them.

Officers said this time this incident appears to be isolated and there is no risk to public safety.
