206 covid recoveries outpace 93 new cases

Durham Health yesterday added two new Covid-19 deaths for January 9, with one in Oshawa and another in a Whitby long term care home (LTCH), taking the overall toll to 252 since the count began on February 29. Of these, 204 deaths have taken place in LTCHs.

The new fatalities take the January toll to 12. There were 53 deaths in Durham in December and five in November.

Durham Health posted 93 new Covid-19 cases for January 13, taking the region’s tally to 9,323. Another 2 cases are under investigation.

Recoveries stand at 8,204, up by 206. There are 867 active covid cases.

There were:

  • 19 new cases in Pickering
  • 27 in Ajax
  • 24 in Whitby
  • 15 in Oshawa
  • 7 in Clarington
  • 1 in Uxbridge
  • 4 in Scugog, and
  • 2 in Brock

Forty-four cases are hospitalized with 14 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 823 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,726 in Ajax.

Death Toll: 252

Of the 92 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 45 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-eight deaths were reported in Whitby, 30 in LTCH
Of the 44 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Nine deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
22 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
Two deaths has been reported in Scugog, one in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Brock
