One new covid death takes Durham toll to 250

Durham Health yesterday added a new Covid-19 death for January 12 in a Scugog long term care home (LTCH) taking the overall toll to 250 since the count began on February 29. Of these, 203 deaths have taken place in LTCHs.

The new fatality takes the January toll to 10. There were 53 deaths in December and five in November.

Durham Health posted 79 new Covid-19 cases for January 12, taking the region’s tally to 9,226. Another 4 cases are under investigation.

Recoveries stand at 7,998, up by 152. There are 978 active covid cases.

There were:

  • 24 new cases in Pickering
  • 21 in Ajax
  • 12 in Whitby
  • 12 in Oshawa
  • 7 in Clarington
  • 4 in Uxbridge, and
  • 3 in Scugog

Fifty cases are hospitalized with 17 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 928 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,699 in Ajax.

Death Toll: 250

Of the 92 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 45 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-seven deaths were reported in Whitby, 29 in LTCH
Of the 43 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Nine deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
22 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
Two deaths has been reported in Scugog, one in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Brock
