January covid death toll revised to nine

Durham Health yesterday revised the January Covid-19 death toll to nine – all outside of long term care homes (LTCHs).

There were:

  • One death each in Pickering, Clarington, Uxbridge and Scugog
  • Two in Ajax
  • Three in Whitby

There were 53 deaths in December and five in November. Overall, there have been 249 covid deaths in Durham with 202 in LTCHs.

Durham Health posted 108 new Covid-19 cases for January 11, taking the region’s tally to 9,144 since the count began on February 29. Another 5 cases are under investigation.

Recoveries stand at 7,846, up by 155. There are 1,049 active covid cases.

There were:

  • 23 new cases in Pickering
  • 27 in Ajax
  • 24 in Whitby
  • 25 in Oshawa
  • 8 in Clarington
  • 2 in Uxbridge, and
  • 9 in Scugog

Forty-four cases are hospitalized with 16 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 1,005 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,678 in Ajax.

Death Toll: 249

Of the 92 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 45 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-seven deaths were reported in Whitby, 29 in LTCH
Of the 43 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Nine deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
22 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
One death has been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
