Gamble Drive home in Ajax shot at again

Durham Police are investigating a second incident where multiple shots were fired at the same residence in Ajax. No injuries were reported.

On Sunday, January 10, at about 10:50 pm, members of West Division were dispatched to a residence on Gamble Drive in the area of Salem Road and Taunton Road East in Ajax for shots fired. Officers arrived and discovered the residence had been struck by multiple bullets. One stray bullet struck a secondary residence. Multiple shell casings were located at the scene. There were no reported injuries, police said.

A review of security footage from the area showed the gunshots came from inside a dark-coloured 4-door sedan vehicle.

Anyone with home security or dash cam video in the evening, at the above location, or anyone with new information about this incident is asked to contact A/Det MacKinnon or D/Cst. Beline of the West Division Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2529.

Mayor Shaun Collier said the weekend shooting angered him.

“Gun violence is a senseless and cowardly act that threatens neighbourhoods and our sense of community. As a result, residents are fearful for their families, property and overall safety. I want to be clear that violence is unequivocally unwelcome in Ajax.”

He said Ajax Council has been in contact with the Durham Region Police Service (DRPS), and here’s what we know:

  • This is similar to the shooting that occurred – at the same residence – on January 7.
  • DRPS does not believe that the shootings are linked to the tow truck arson on the same street (January 8), but the investigation is ongoing.

To the residents who live on Gamble: you should not have to fear for your safety. No one in Ajax should. DRPS is taking the matter seriously. They have committed to increasing their presence in the Gamble area, and are investigating all leads. Ajax Council has expressed our concerns and need for more action on violence and crime to DRPS, said Mayor Collier.

We ask that anyone with any information about these incidents contact the DRPS, he added.
