Durham Health posts 1,206 active covid cases

Durham Health yesterday posted 155 new Covid-19 cases for January 9, taking the region’s tally to 8,924 since the count began on February 29. Another 28 cases are under investigation.

Recoveries stand at 7,473, up by 115. There are 1,206 active covid cases.

There were:

  • 19 new cases in Pickering
  • 51 in Ajax
  • 28 in Whitby
  • 33 in Oshawa
  • 13 in Clarington
  • 2 in Uxbridge
  • 23 in Scugog, and
  • 1 in Brock

Forty-seven cases are hospitalized with 15 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 1,159 people in home isolation.

Total death toll is at 245 with 202 in long term care homes (LTCHs).

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,613 in Ajax.

Of the 92 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 44 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-six deaths were reported in Whitby, 29 in LTCH
Of the 43 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
22 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
