New record of daily covid cases in Durham

Durham Health yesterday posted a Covid-19 daily record of 204 new cases for January 8, taking the region’s tally to 8,561 since the count began on February 29. Another 39 cases are under investigation.

Recoveries stand at 7,358, up by 41. There are 1,162 active covid cases.

There were:

  • 39 new cases in Pickering
  • 47 in Ajax
  • 34 in Whitby
  • 56 in Oshawa
  • 19 in Clarington
  • 6 in Uxbridge
  • 8 in Scugog, and
  • 1 in Brock

Forty-five cases are hospitalized with 15 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 1,117 people in home isolation.

Total death toll is at 245 with 202 in long term care homes (LTCHs).

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,562 in Ajax.

Death Toll: 245

Of the 92 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 44 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-six deaths were reported in Whitby, 29 in LTCH
Of the 43 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
22 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
