Woman stuck all night in marshes, in ICU

Air1 is being credited with saving the life of a Clarington woman, who was stuck in a marshy area after going for a walk.

In the early morning hours of January 9, police were called about a missing, distraught 48-year-old Clarington woman, who was last seen at approximately 9 pm the night before. She had gone for a walk and did not take per purse, wallet or phone.

East Division officers immediately began searching the area of Highway 2 and Regional Road 57 in Bowmanville and police helicopter Air1 was brought in to assist with the ground search. The Public Safety Unit was called in, as well.

At approximately 5 am, the missing female was located stuck in a swampy area near Martin Road and the Baseline Road West. Air1 directed ground units to the exact location and the female was removed from the swampy area and taken to hospital.

She was suffering from hypothermia and frost bite and was treated in the intensive care unit.
