50 notices served in just two days for handheld devices

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has been conducting a distracted driving campaign for handheld communication devices in North Oshawa.

For the past two days, DRPS said yesterday, its East Division officers have been monitoring the area of Taunton Road West and Wilson Road North.

In just two days, 50 provincial offence notices for drive – handheld communications device, were issued as well as for 12 unrelated offences.

DRPS reminded motorists that the fine for using a handheld communication device such as a cellphone is $500, which comes to a total of $615 with taxes included.

The fine also comes with three to six demerit points.
