Ajax reveals part of the missing story in its hiring report

The Town of Ajax made a recent social media post about corrections they have made to the number of people hired between 2018–2024.

The reported numbers were incorrect in the case of part-time, contract and seasonal positions. The Financial Information Return process corrected the report in 2022 and found that the positions had been over counted, said a town statement.

The actual number of staff hired between 2018–2024 is 154. Not the previously quoted 180.

In 2018, town leadership identified vulnerabilities caused by years of under-investment in crucial areas such as Fire & Emergency Services, Information Technology, and Operations to support growth, service quality, and innovation.

Residents require faster response times for services, more transparency, better online services, and higher safety standards. These expectations required more staff to maintain high-quality services. This led to the town hiring more professionals to meet the growing demand and population of the town.
