79-year old dies after crash likely caused by medical episode

Durham Police yesterday said a medical episode is believed to be the cause of a collision in Whitby that claimed the life of a 79-year-old male.

On Friday, April 26 at about 12:40 pm, officers from Central West Division responded to a three-vehicle collision on Rossland Road and Garden Street in Whitby.

One driver, a 79-year-old male was provided emergency medical treatment at the scene and then transported to a local area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Investigators believe the driver may have suffered a medical episode that led to the collision.

DRPS attended the collision scene to conduct an investigation. The area of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
