79-year old man dies of medical episode while driving

A 79-year-old driver suffered a medical episode which led to a single vehicle collision on Wednesday evening in Port Perry.

On January 31 at about 7:25 pm, members of North Division responded to a call for a single motor vehicle collision in the area of Curt Street and Water Street.

A vehicle, being operated by a 79-year-old male, was travelling westbound when the driver suffered a medical episode causing him to leave the roadway and strike a street light and bus shelter, said a police statement.

The driver was located without vital signs and transported to a local area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The male is believed to have died due to a medical episode.

Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit were called to the scene to conduct an investigation. A portion of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected. The roadway has since been reopened.
