Woman in critical condition after being struck down

Durham Police yesterday said a 49-year-old female was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in Whitby.

On Tuesday, January 30 at about 7 pm, members of Central West Division responded to a call for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle near Taunton Road West and Baldwin Street South.

A green Toyota Highlander was travelling westbound on Taunton Road when it struck a pedestrian. The driver of the Toyota remained on scene and was cooperative with police.

The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre where she remains in critical condition, said a police statement.

Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit were called to the scene to conduct an investigation. A portion of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected. The roadway has since been reopened.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Riley of the Collision Investigation Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5216.
