Durham Police yesterday said a male has been arrested after attempting to flee police while impaired by alcohol and in possession of a firearm.
On Saturday, January 27 at about 8:20 am, members of West Division responded to a suspicious vehicle call at the intersection of Westney Road and Curtis Gate in Ajax. The caller reported a white Mercedes being stopped at the intersection, with its engine running for over 30 minutes.
Officers blocked the Mercedes and approached the vehicle when it attempted to flee. The Mercedes struck several cruisers, but was unable to flee, said a police statement.
Officers removed the driver and took him into custody without incident. A firearm was located on the male during his arrest. The driver sustained minor injuries from the collision and was transported to a local area hospital. No officers sustained any physical injuries.
The suspect, age 24 from Pickering, was charged. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
