Hold and Secure at school after ‘armed person’ report

A Durham District School Board (DDSB) school in Oshawa had to be put under ‘Hold and Secure’ following the receipt of a threat, according to both Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) and DDSB.

It is understood an armed person was reported in the vicinity of the school.

However, about an hour later the hold and secure was lifted. “Officers have been unable to substantiate the validity of the threat and believe there is no current threat to the area,” said a DRPS alert.

DDSB also announced the return to normalcy. “The Hold and Secure has been lifted. DRPS have been unable to substantiate the validity of the threat and believe there is no current threat to the area. Thank you to DRPS for their follow up and keeping our community informed and safe.”

Earlier, DDSB said its school in Glen Street had been placed in a Hold and Secure with all exterior doors locked. “Students remain under supervision. We are working with and following the direction of DRPS in the interest of student and staff safety. Further updates to come.”

DRPS, at that time, said police were in the area of Glen Street and Porter Street in Oshawa for reports of an armed person. Glen Street Public School is currently in a hold and secure. Further information to follow.

No further details were released till late last night.
