Owner stabbed during attempted dognapping

Durham Police reported that a male was stabbed by two unknown males during an attempted robbery of his dog in Pickering.

On Saturday, January 20, members of the West Division Criminal Investigations Branch were made aware by members of the Toronto Police Service, of an attempted robbery that had occurred between noon and 2 pm, in the Pickering area.

The victim parked his vehicle in a wooded area in Pickering to let his service dog urinate. A black older model Ford F-150 approached the victim, and two unknown males exited the vehicle. The two suspects brandished knives and demanded the victim’s service dog, said a police statement.

A physical altercation occurred between the victim and one of the suspects, and the victim was subsequently stabbed in his leg. The two suspects were unsuccessful in taking the service dog and fled the area in the Ford.

The victim drove himself to a Toronto area hospital where he contacted police. The victim sustained minor injuries.

The first suspect is described as: male, White, slim build, 30-40 years-old, with dark shoulder length hair, and a dark beard. He was wearing a dark coloured shirt, dark coloured jeans, and black construction boots.

The second suspect is described as: male, White, slim build, 6’1” tall, 30-40 years-old, with red hair, and a red long beard. He was wearing a burgundy construction jacket, black construction pants, and black construction boots.

The suspect vehicle is described as: an older model black Ford F-150, tinted windows, and 20” large tires.
