Durham Crime Update: Shooting, theft and 89 arrests…

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) reported gunfire in Oshawa on Saturday in which a man was injured.

Police were in the area of Wentworth Street West and Cedar Street in Oshawa for a shooting investigation, DRPS said.

One person has been transported to a Toronto area trauma center in serious condition. Police have one male in custody, the statement added.

89 arrests, 554 charges by Carjacking Task Force

The Provincial Carjacking Joint Task Force (PCJTF), which includes Durham Police, announced the results of enforcement actions against those responsible for violent vehicle crimes in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), including carjackings and home invasions for the purpose of vehicle theft.

Since September 21, 2023, the PCJTF’s efforts have resulted in:

  • 89 arrests;
  • 554 charges laid under the Criminal Code; and,
  • 109 vehicles recovered.

This task force funding is provided by the Ontario Government, Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario. PCJTF is co-led by the Toronto Police Service (TPS) and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with collaboration between police services from across the GTA, including York Regional Police (YRP), Halton Regional Police (HRP), Durham Regional Police (DRP) and Peel Regional Police (PRP).

Suspect wanted for theft

Police are looking for a male who stole numerous items from a business in Oshawa. On October 27 at about 7:15 pm, an unknown male attended Extreme RC & Raceways located at Simcoe Street South, in Oshawa. The male unboxed and concealed various items in his jacket before leaving the store.

The suspect is described as: male, White, 6’ tall, approximately 40-50 years-old, with a slim build. He was wearing a grey hat, black fall jacket with a tree emblem, and a blue and white collared shirt. Suspect image is available at www.drps.ca.
