Two pedestrians hit in Whitby and Oshawa, one dead, one serious

Durham Police yesterday said a 79-year-old female has succumbed to her injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Whitby.

On Wednesday, December 6 at about 5:20 pm, members from Central West Division responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian on Thickson Road South near Applewood Avenue in Whitby. A 79-year-old female pedestrian had been struck by a northbound Chevrolet Cobalt, (grey) while attempting to cross the street, said a police statement.

The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was pronounced deceased during transport by EMS to the hospital. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with investigating officers.

Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roads in the area were closed for several hours while evidence was collected, police said.

Male pedestrian in life-threatening condition

Police said a 28-year-old male was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in Oshawa.

On Wednesday, December 6th at about 5:05 pm, officers from Central West Division responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Thornton Road North and Rossland Road West in Oshawa.

A white Acura RDX was reportedly driving northbound on Thornton Road when the vehicle struck the pedestrian, a 28-year-old male. The driver of the Acura remained on scene, police said.

The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre where he remains in critical condition. The driver of the Acura was not injured.

Members of the DRPS – Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The area of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
