907 active covid cases in Durham

Durham Health yesterday posted 54 new Covid-19 cases for December 26 bringing the region’s tally to 6,846 since the count began on February 29. Another 135 cases are under investigation.

Recoveries stand at 5,702, up by 66. There were 907 active covid cases.

According to Durham Health, there were:

  • 12 new cases in Pickering
  • 7 in Ajax.
  • 12 in Whitby
  • 8 in Oshawa
  • 2 in Clarington
  • 2 in Scugog, and
  • 1 in Uxbridge

Twenty-eight cases are hospitalized with eight in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 879 people in home isolation.

Death toll stays at 237 with 201 in long term care homes (LTCHs). No new deaths were posted for the fourth day running.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 1,954 in Ajax.

Of the 90 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 42 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-four deaths were reported in Whitby, 29 in LTCH
Of the 42 reported deaths in Oshawa, 33 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
