Violent attacks on homeless males in Oshawa

Durham Police Central East Division is investigating two separate and violent attacks on males living in tents in Oshawa parks.

The first incident occurred on Thursday, November 19, at about 4:45 am, when the 28-year-old male victim was pulled from his tent in Brick by Brick Park and beaten by three males wearing masks. The suspects demanded money and drugs and left with the victim’s running shoes. The victim suffered numerous injuries, but none were considered life-threatening, police said.

The second incident occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, November 24, when a 56-year-old male victim in a tent in Cowan Park was awoken by kicks and punches. Once again, three males with masks were involved. The victim was knocked unconscious and suffered multiple serious but non-life threatening injuries. A quantity of cash was taken, police said.

At this point in the investigation, the only description in both incidents is three males, wearing masks and the same three suspects may be involved in both incidents. Frontline police patrols will be increased in these areas and information will be shared about these incidents with those currently living in tents in various locations.

Anyone with new information about these incidents is asked to contact D/Cst. Hartry of the Central East Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2770.
