Clarington man goes on crime spree in Oshawa

A 28-year-old Clarington male is facing numerous charges after a two-day crime spree in Oshawa.

On November 23, the suspect went to Walmart on Harmony Road in Oshawa and stole a quantity of electronics and drove off in a vehicle. On the same day, the suspect entered a convenience store on Simcoe Street North in Oshawa and walked out with cigarettes and a lighter, police said.

On November 24,  the suspect attended a gas station on Bloor Street and stole some products. When the store owner confronted him, the suspect assaulted the victim. Approximately 45 minutes later, the suspect went to a Home Hardware store on Grandview Street South in Oshawa and stole several items before driving off in his vehicle.

On November 25, the suspect was arrested while operating his vehicle in Whitby. He was arrested for impaired driving and is facing numerous charges, police said.

Richard Hughes, age 28 of Fourth Street in Clarington faces numerous charges, including: Theft Under $5,000 x4; Robbery; Possession under $5,000; Impaired Operation by Drug; Possession of a Schedule I Substance x2 (fentanyl, heroin) and Use Unauthorized Plate.

He was held for a bail hearing.
