Armed suspect flees… but not from canny K9s

Durham Police officers have arrested a suspect and are looking to identify a second suspect after a failed armed robbery in Beaverton on Monday.

On January 4 at about 3:25 am, police were called to a residence in the area of Osborne Street and Simcoe Street in Beaverton after the victim confronted the suspects outside of the residence. One of the suspects produced a firearm, however, both suspects fled the scene once police were called.

Members of North Division attended the area and located one of the suspects, who engaged them in a lengthy foot pursuit. With the assistance of the K-9 Unit, the suspect was located in a wooded area and placed under arrest, police said.

The victim did not suffer any injuries.

Matthew Taylor, age 37 of Lindsay, Ontario is charged with: Assault with a Weapon; Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose; Use of Imitation Firearm to Commit Indictable Offence; and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. He was held for a bail hearing.

Investigators continue to look for a second suspect, who is described as a male, medium build, wearing all black clothing and a black balaclava.
