DRPS officers responded to a theft in action on Wednesday, May 19, at 12:10 am at the Shoppers Drug Mart located at 20 Warren Ave, Oshawa.
The male suspect was located in a parking lot and a foot pursuit ensued, police said.
The suspect was throwing items and swinging a chain at the officers. The suspect refused to drop the chain and failed to respond to officers commands.
A conducted energy weapon (Taser) was deployed and the male was handcuffed and taken into custody.
A 25 year old male was charged with theft under $5000, possession of stolen property under $5000, and assault of a peace officer x2.
