Durham Police arrested a 26-year-old male after a convenience store robbery in Pickering Tuesday night.
On March 22 at about 6 pm, members of West Division were called to the Smart Food Fair convenience store on Pickering Parkway for a commercial robbery, said a police statement.
The suspect, armed with a knife, entered the store and made a demand for cash. The suspect was confronted by a customer and fled from the store. The customer was able to grab the suspect’s bag and the male fled on foot. Officers responded quickly and arrested the male who was hiding in a residential property on Greta Circle, police said.
The victim did not receive any physical injuries. Police did not release the name of the heroic store customer.
The suspect from Pickering is charged with: Robbery with a Weapon; Possess Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace and Disguise with Intent. He was held for a bail hearing. More details at www.drps.ca.
