A 43-year-old male has been charged with attempting to defraud a bank. Durham Police are investigating if there are other victims.
On March 25, the suspect entered a bank on Victoria Street in Whitby and attempted to open an account using fraudulent identification. Officers were called and he was arrested, said a police statement.
An investigation revealed that he was involved in a similar incident on March 22, when he attended a bank on Brock Road in Pickering. Investigators are releasing his photo at www.drps.ca as they believe he may have attended other banks in Durham Region committing the same criminal offences.
The suspect has been charged with Attempt Fraud Under $5000 x 2, Unlawfully Possess Counterfeit Mark x2, Possess Identification Document of Another Person x2 and Fail to Comply with Release Order x2.
