St. Patrick’s Day crackdown: 7 impaired drivers removed

During St. Patrick’s Day festivities, officers worked to ensure roadway safety throughout Durham Region and removed seven impaired drivers from the roads, according to DRPS.

Between Saturday, March 15, and the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 18, Durham Regional Police Services (DRPS) Traffic Services and all five DRPS Divisions conducted a series of Ride initiatives in conjunction with St. Patrick’s Day festivities.

The Ride initiatives resulted in the following:

  • 1,623 vehicles were stopped
  • 116 individuals received roadside breath tests
  • 4 people received 3-day suspensions for registering a Warn,
  • 1 novice driver received a 3-, 7-, or 30-day licence suspension
  • 7 individuals were charged with impaired, exceeding the limit, or refusal to comply
  • 11 impaired-related Criminal Code charges were laid
  • 62 Provincial Offences Act charges were laid

DRPS officials expressed their gratitude to residents who reported suspected impaired drivers. “If you see something, say something,” they urged, emphasizing that impaired driving is an emergency and encouraging anyone with concerns to call 9-1-1.
