Post-mortem exam finds no foul play in Bowmanville fire death

No foul play is suspected in death of the March 6 downtown Bowmanville fire victim, according to Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS).

In a statement issued yesterday, the DRPS said investigators with the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) reported that they have concluded their examination of the scene and efforts to determine the cause, origin, and circumstances remain ongoing.

A post-mortem examination of the recovered individual found no signs of foul play, and it is believed that the injuries sustained were a result of the fire, said the statement.

Authorities are still working to confirm the person’s identity, DRPS added.

Some 35 persons were dsplaced by the fire, according to the Municipality of Clarington.
