Oshawa Fire: Second daughter dies too, father improves

Durham Police yesterday said the post-mortem examinations have been completed on the now three victims of the March 12 Oshawa fire.

There are no signs of foul play. The injuries sustained are believed to have resulted from the fire, the police said.

A mother and a nine-year old daughter died following the fire, while the father and another 12-year old daughter were in critical condition in hospital.

Early yesterday morning, the 12-year-old girl who was removed from the home by firefighters, succumbed to her injuries. Her father’s condition has improved, and he is expected to survive, police said.

On Wednesday, March 12, at about 8:10 am, members of Central East Division said they responded to an active fire on McGrigor Street. Officers arrived on the scene and located a male outside the residence. They were advised by him that an adult female and two children were still inside. Oshawa Fire arrived shortly thereafter and extracted the three parties.  A 46-year-old female and a 9-year-old female were transported to a local area hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.

The Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) is continuing their investigation into the cause, origin, and circumstances of the fire. However, at this stage it is not believed to be an arson.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact Det. Price of Central East Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 at ext. 2770.
