Modified car blitz nets a ticket an hour on average

It was neither speeding nor impaired driving – the two most commonly reported traffic violations – but subtle to loud modifications that netted the keen-eyed and sharp-eared stalwarts of Durham Region Police Service (DRPS), some  48 tickets in just two days – averaging one ticket for every hour of the day.

DRPS North Division is on a year-long project ‘Northern Focus’ to monitor traffic and reduce collisions at major intersections in Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge.

On July 11, it said members of Traffic Safety conducted a two-day modified vehicle blitz across Brock, Uxbridge and Scugog last week.

“We issued 48 tickets and 14 cautions. Help keep our roads safe—ensure performance mods are lawful before making changes!”

North Division two-day initiative was on July 9-10, addressing violations like window tint, loud exhausts, oversized tires, plate covers, and missing front plates to name a few.

Late last month, DRPS announced that in just three days, North Division officers had arrested six drivers, issued 84 tickets, 15 cautions, and 4 criminal charges, plus numerous driving suspensions and impounds (see below).
