A fundraising campaign has been launched following the tragic death of 2-year-old Nayeli Maëlle Soffack Djiazet, who passed away in an accidental drowning on August 5.
Nayeli was remembered as a joyful and innocent child, whose sudden loss has left her parents, Aris-Maurel Soffack Dongmo and Triomphaelle Delle Dongmo Nguelefack, and their loved ones in deep pain.
The couple, who immigrated to Canada from Cameroon just one year ago and settled in Oshawa, are still finding their footing in their new community and are currently unemployed. The unexpected tragedy has placed both emotional and financial strain on the family.
Although the parents were registered with a program called Dernière Demeure Internationale—a service similar to Retour au Pays Natal (RPN)—the children were not included in the coverage, leaving the family with significant challenges.
According to the GoFundMe page, donations will go toward:
- Funeral and memorial costs
- Psychological support for the family
- Basic needs while they grieve
- Other unforeseen expenses during this period
Organizers of the fundraiser say that any contribution, no matter the size, will help support the family as they navigate this devastating loss. For those unable to donate, they are encouraging the community to share the campaign and keep the family in their thoughts and prayers.
As of late last night, $11,390 has been raised from 273 donations. The target is $13,000.
