Durham Region has lifted mandatory water restrictions for residents and businesses in Beaverton, Cannington, Sunderland, Uxbridge, Port Perry, Orono, Blackstock and Greenbank.
The restrictions, which were put in place due to extreme heat and lack of rain, are no longer required and have been lifted effective immediately, the Region said.
While watering can resume, residents are reminded that “odd-even lawn day watering” remains a mandatory requirement each year from May to September under the Regional Water Supply By-law #85-2003.
Durham thanked residents and businesses for their cooperation during the restrictions. According to the region, daily water use in affected systems dropped by an average of 10 to 15 per cent, helping to conserve supply during the hot, dry period.
