Yet another step coming in the train to Bowmanville

Metrolinx has announced that it is preparing for the future Bowmanville Extension project, with yet another step scheduled to be taken soon.

The project will extend Lakeshore East GO rail service through Central Oshawa to Courtice and Bowmanville.

XS Soil Solutions Inc. will be at the Simcoe Street bridge conducting asphalt collection, Metrolinx said in a notice issued to the City of Oshawa.

“This assessment is a measure of diligence in maintaining compliance with provincial regulations pertaining to the identification of designated substances and materials. Asphalt cores will be extracted from Simcoe Street South, Avenue Street and Hall Street in Oshawa,” the notice said.

Works are scheduled from October 27 to 31.

During this period, work is scheduled to take place Monday to Friday, between 7 am and 5 pm. Work hours may be extended or rescheduled due to inclement weather, unforeseen circumstances or to advance work, the notice said..

What to Expect

Traffic Control Personnel will be responsible for safely directing and managing vehicular movement in and around the work zone. Transit services and vehicular traffic may experience minor disruptions during the work.

Residents should expect some noise, vibration and dust. Site lighting may be used if necessary and will be pointed away from homes.

Staff will take reasonable precautions to minimize disturbances to residents and commuters, including but not limited to the following:

  • reduced idling of non-essential equipment
  • safely securing the work area
  • white noise backup alarms on vehicles and machinery as required
  • safety signage will be in place and crews will follow all applicable safety and environmental guidelines
  • once work is completed the affected areas will be restored to original conditions

Pedestrians are asked to exercise caution in and around active construction zones, and comply with all posted signage, instructions and safety measures. Please follow directions from the Traffic Flagging Personnel.
