Victim stabbed in movie theatre plaza by several suspects

Durham police are searching for several suspects after a male was stabbed in a plaza in Whitby.

On Saturday, January 3 around 10:40 pm members of Central West Division responded to an armed person call in the area of Consumers Drive and Hopkins Street.

A male was walking through the plaza of the movie theatre when he was assaulted and stabbed by several unknown suspects. The victim fled the area before contacting police. He was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre in serious but non-life-threatening condition, police said.

Anyone who was in the area between 9:30 pm to 11:30 pm, on January, 3, 2026 that may have cellphone, dash cam, surveillance footage or information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Franzin of the Central West Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1805.
