Air and noise test at Oshawa Airport this summer

This summer, the Oshawa Executive Airport has retained the firm RWDI Consulting Engineers and Scientists to undertake an air quality assessment and noise study using monitors installed at the end of the airport’s four runways.

The air quality assessment will measure particles that contribute to air pollution along with lead and nitrogen dioxide and will consider the impact of aircraft traffic and airport-related activity. Results will be compared to the Ministry of Environment Conservation and Parks Ambient Air Quality Criteria.

Data collected from the noise study will be compared to aircraft movement data to identify trends in noise relating to volume, duration, movement type and aircraft type. This will assist in the potential development of new noise and traffic management strategies targeted to help reduce the impact of aircraft noise on surrounding neighbourhoods.

Both studies will run until mid-September. Results will be considered in the updated airport business plan.

The Oshawa Executive Airport participated in an air quality study in 2015, which indicated that the air quality, in all categories, met the acceptable standards.
