Travelling through southern Oshawa may become challenging due to ongoing and upcoming road works that require lane restrictions and road closures.
There are ongoing works on the widening of Highway 401 and the two-year closure of Simcoe Street South between Avenue and Albany streets for a bridge replacement project above the Canadian Pacific Kansas City rail line.
Now announcements from both the City of Oshawa and the Region of Durham have come through warning of road closures and lane restrictions at Albert, Park, Wilson and Adelaide.
Albert Street: The City of Oshawa yesterday announced that Albert Street is closed to through traffic. No through access will be available for emergency vehicles either.
The closure is from Thursday, September 17 until 4 pm Monday, September 21 between King Street East and Athol Street East for the Oshawa Tourism’s Convergence Music and Art Festival.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” said a city statement.
Park Road South: The Region of Durham announced upcoming lane restrictions on Park Road South from September 21 to 23.
There will be eastbound and westbound lane restrictions from Marland Avenue to 60 metres south of Marland Avenue, both daytime and overnight from September 21 to 23, to safely investigate a broken watermain valve.
The region said unfavourable weather conditions may impact the work schedule.
Wilson and Adelaide: Durham Region also reminded residents of ongoing lane restrictions on Wilson Road (Regional Road 35) and Adelaide Avenue East (Regional Road 58) until September 30.
These are from Olive Avenue (Regional Road 59) to Adelaide Avenue East in Oshawa and on Adelaide Avenue East from Wilson Road to Dover Street.
Lane restrictions are required to safely rehabilitate the road, the region said.
The region said it realizes that the work may be disruptive and will make every effort to complete it as quickly and efficiently as possible. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and work crews.
