All-time Durham covid cases cross 10,000

Durham Health yesterday added one new Covid-19 long term care home (LTCH) death in Scugog, taking the region’s toll to 267 since the count began on February 29. Of these, 212 deaths have taken place in LTCHs.

The new fatalities take the current month’s toll to 27. There were 53 deaths in Durham in December and five in November.

Durham Health posted 124 new Covid-19 cases for January 20, taking the region’s tally to 10,024. Another three cases are under investigation.

Recoveries stand at 9,013, up by 133. There are 744 active covid cases.

There were:

  • 22 new cases in Pickering
  • 36 in Ajax
  • 24 in Whitby
  • 21 in Oshawa
  • 7 in Clarington
  • 3 in Uxbridge
  • 6 in Scugog, and
  • 2 in Brock

Forty-seven cases are hospitalized with 14 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 697 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,933 in Ajax.

Of the 92 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 45 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Forty-one deaths were reported in Whitby, 30 in LTCH
Of the 46 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Nine deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
23 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
Ten deaths has been reported in Scugog, eight in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Brock
