Any more victims of builder who duped homeowner of $56K?

Durham police yesterday said a male has been charged in connection with a fraud investigation involving a residential construction project in Ajax.

In August 2024, the victim hired ABC [acronym] to complete the construction of a residence in Ajax. The victim dealt directly with the owner of the company.

As part of the agreed payment schedule, the victim provided ABC with $56,560 for the residence to be enrolled in a Tarion Warranty. The payment was deposited into a bank account associated with ABC.

During the construction project, a dispute arose regarding the payment schedule and completion of the residence, and ABC ceased work on the property.

No Protection

The victim subsequently contacted Tarion to determine what warranty protections were available for the unfinished residence. The victim learned that the property had never been enrolled with Tarion and was not protected as believed.

Police are concerned there may be further victims.

The builder, age 30, owner of ABC, is charged with: Fraud Over $5,000 x1 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 x1. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Anyone with information about this incident or who believes they may have been a victim in a similar circumstance is asked to contact 1-888-579-1520.

Editor’s Note: Durham Post does not name or identify the accused as:
