At least 40 shots fired at Ajax shooting scene

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday revealed that at least 40 shots had been fired during an evening shooting spree in the heart of Ajax.

Meanwhile, police said they are investigating after multiple shots were fired on a residential street in Pickering Thursday morning. No injuries were reported.

On Thursday, April 29, 2021, at approximately 2:25 a.m., members of West Division were dispatched to a residence in the area of Anton Square and Liverpool Road in Pickering for shots fired. Officers arrived and discovered damage to a residence that had been caused by stray bullets. The occupants inside the residence were not injured.

On the Ajax shooting: Two People suffered serious injuries after a shooting in Ajax on Wednesday afternoon.

On Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at approximately 4:20 p.m., members of West Division responded to a shooting at the intersection of Kingston Road and Harwood Avenue, in Ajax. Officers arrived on scene and located a white sedan south of the intersection with damage caused by bullets. Police located one 24-year-old female and one 26-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to a Toronto area trauma centre with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Information received as part of the investigation indicates there was an altercation between the victims and suspect(s), who were in a dark sedan, resulting in over 40 shots being fired. The suspect vehicle fled the scene.

The intersection was closed until approximately 1:00 a.m., as members from the Forensic Investigative Services collected evidence. Investigators are continuing the investigation and don’t believe this was a random act.

“Investigators confirmed over 40 shell casings located at the scene,” said a DRPS tweet.

Earlier, officers from West Division were called to this intersection at approximately 4:20 pm for reports of shots fired. Anyone with dashcam footage is urged to call investigators at 1(888)579-1520.

Shaun Collier, Ajax Mayor deplored the shooting.

“While we await critical updates about the shooting, let me be clear that any act of gun violence is one too many. Communities deserve better.”

He said there the “serious shooting” took place around 4:30 pm. Mayor Collier said DRPS is on the scene and will provide updates as they become available.

The intersection of Harwood Ave and Kingston Road, in Ajax has been shut down for an ongoing police investigation.
