ATM robber tracked, carjacker nabbed after pursuit

A male suspect is wanted after an early morning street-level robbery last week at a drive-thru ATM in Bowmanville.

On June 16, at approximately 6 am, the female victim drove through the bank ATM at the TD Canada Trust on Longworth Avenue to withdraw cash, when the unknown suspect armed with a firearm approached her vehicle, and made a demand for cash. The suspect was not able to get any cash or property and fled on foot, police said.

The victim didn’t sustain any physical injuries.

The suspect is described as male, black, with blotchy skin tone on his nose and cheek, 30-40 years, 5’10” tall, black facial hair and brown eyes. He wore all black clothes and a black face covering.

Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Barr of the East Division Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext.1611.

Meanwhile, Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said members from the Central West Division in the area of Lakeridge Road/Bayly Street for a vehicle pursuit in relation to a carjacking.

The suspect has been taken into custody. Update to follow.
