Bear sighted near another public school in Beaverton

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said a bear was sighted near another school in Beaverton in the Township of Brock.

Thorah Central Public School was placed under a Shelter in Place protocol, said a tweet from the Durham District School Board (DDSB).

The sighting of a young bear on June 22 had triggered a lockdown in Beaverton Public School. Another bear was reportedly sighted the same day in Scugog.

Officers from DRPS North Division are dealing with a bear sighting in the area of Thorah Central Public School in Beaverton. If you see the bear please do not approach it and contact police, said a tweet from police after yesterday’s sighting.

Thorah Central PS is under a Shelter in Place protocol. Staff and students are safe. Please report any bear sightings to DRPS, said a DDSB tweet.
