Beautiful Durham sunset, speeding and traffic fines…

It was a mix of the beautiful – and not so beautiful – for Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officers monitoring traffic yesterday evening.

Our officer up on Taunton in Clarington is reporting mostly compliant driving, and a beautiful sunset. Please ensure you are driving safely tonight, said a DRPS Traffic Services tweet.

However, complaint driving did not last too long.

“Spoke too soon… 34 km/hr over. 6km from stunt driving charges. Please slow down,” said another tweet from the same location soon after.

Another tweet about Lake Ridge Road said one officer issued five tickets in less than an hour for aggressive driving offences including speed, unsafe move, following too closely.

It said enforcement will continue throughout the night and for weeks to come. Please slow down.

Another tweet described an officer at Taunton-Solina reporting that within 30 seconds of parking at the Food Truck parking lot, a driver was clocked at 105kmh (see image below).

“This was after he began to slow down,” it pointed out.

“We also want to thank those that suggest problem areas – although we won’t make it to all, we do listen and we hear you,” it added.

DRPS also issued an alert to motorcyclists. “Before you hit the road on a motorcycle, be sure to do a thorough safety check”.
