Bowmanville fish ladder cleared of debris – for free

The Municipality of Clarington has thanked community partner Boyle Excavating for clearing debris and silt gathered at the fish ladder in Bowmanville.

“Clearing the fishway will certainly support the local ecosystem and assist the salmon run which takes place late summer into the fall,” said a municipal media statement. “During that time thousands of spawning salmon make their way up the Bowmanville Creek to the fish ladder. It’s quite the local attraction.”

Boyle Excavating cleared all the debris that had travelled downstream following the record recent rainfall. The company has large, specialized excavating equipment for this job that Clarington does not own. They did this work at no cost to the municipality.

“This is the second time that Boyle Excavating has stepped up and brought specialized heavy equipment to assist Clarington and Valleys 2000 in clearing the Bowmanville fishway. They truly are a great community partner. On behalf of our community, I want to thank them for their stewardship,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.

Boyle Excavating is a family-owned and operated business located in Bowmanville and founded in 1973.
