Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday warned residents of an increase in residential break and enters across the Durham Region.
It shared a video (see below) from a recent incident to raise community awareness.
“We encourage all residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious people, vehicles, or activity to police immediately. Please note suspect descriptions, vehicle make model and licence plate when possible. Timely reporting supports ongoing investigations and helps us identify patterns and persons of interest,” said the DRPS.
Homeowners were also reminded to invest in basic home‑security measures, including securing all doors and windows, using exterior lighting, and securing valuables out of sight.
“If you have a home security camera, please consider registering your system with CamSafe, our voluntary camera registry. This allows officers to quickly identify nearby cameras that may assist in solving neighbourhood crimes. You can register your camera at camsafe.ca,” police said.
If you have information about any of these incidents, you may also contact Crime Stoppers at 1‑800‑222‑TIPS (8477). You can remain anonymous. Thank you for your cooperation as we work together to keep our community safe, DRPS added.
